Life's great work

was only a few years ago
since i bought my friend's car and i moved far
a long long way down
a long, long way from home
not really knowin where i was goin
but just knowing i had to hit the road
just a poor boy
just a poor old wandering soul
never thought twice about my life or my identity
selling everything that i own
cashing in both my loans
and i sacrificed that old college degree
oh just to be what i wanted to be
just to see everything that i always hoped that i'd always see
and there's a great life's work in front me

cause all i know is that there's only one thing left to believe

and the rest of my family out there with me everywhere that i go
and it's behind closed eyes i see them smiling
and they're laughing and clapping and oh they're having a ball
with their little boy lost who is trying
and he'll try it all
but there's a great deal of life's work in front of me
i never thought that i'd ever be oh so easy
cause i never heard that it's only one else and it's only one thing to believe
i got my work cut out for me

and some day the words don't work
and i forget all about what i've spoken for
but god knows it doesn't hurt
i gotta keep on, keep on keepin on
because i'll make more
and there's a great life's work in front of me
