Mushroom

YesterdayI thanked the sun
For almost everything he'd done
Cuz I know it must be hard, to make it
Green in my backyard
Saw a mushroom on a hill, standing proud
And standing still, he told me I would never
Be alone

Turn away from time my child
You'll have your day in the sun
You can run to the end of the world

I knelt down to pray, I asked for redemption today
But no one was listening
How many times round the sun must we go til we've
Begun to believe in an hour or two

Should ask for a ride, can't run, might as well fly
There's a reason I drown in a pool of myself
Everybody needs a piece of the time and if they can't have their own
They can't have mine, tell me where's your serenity

Yesterday they dropped the bomb, and I saw the mushroom come
And we laughed, and then we prayed, underneath the acid rain
And the cars stopped on the freeway, and the sun just disappeared
And my mother's face was frozen in a smile
