Fenris
Ophidian foresthis sister-god is Hel
his howls unsettle Asgard
eating godflesh he shall
His lycanthropic might
formed like dark clouds malign
there is no way round prophecies
'bout Fenrir's prey divine
His jaws will gape from earth to sky
great predator and yet
't is only by the hand of Tyr
by which the beast is fed
And Odin watches with unease
as Tyr provides the beast of meat
foreseeing a cruel destiny
they told him he shall meet
They seek to capture Fenris
and bind him head to tail
so he will not at Ragnarok
cause carnage on grand scale
They let him test his powers
and put on iron festers
but Fenris breaks free easily:
the Aesir not his masters
But Gleipnir, like a silken ribbon
made of things that can't be found
like breath of fish and roots of rock
will get him stuck and bound
Distrusting, wary of a trap
the wolf demands a hand be put
between his jaws and show good will
that they not try what they not should
As dusk will chase the light away
the Aesir watch one confident
the mighty wolf knoweth no rest
he growls and pulls like life depend
The more the wolf will struggle
the more the band will tighten and
then all begin to laugh 'cept Tyr
for Tyr will lose his helping hand
A sword they thrust up Fenrir's mouth
and long the time he cries out loud
tormented still and on a slope
he drools a river they call hope
Betrayal comes with lust for blood
one day the carnage shall begin
the power of the prophecy:
around, it shall not spin.
