Satyros

In dialogue with time

Satyros
Once again, i fell asleep
Dwellin’ deeply on my thoughts
What if i woke at a different time
I’d wake as someone else?
What if i woke in a different place
Would i be someone else?
Back then, she’d first appeared
And rouse me from my silken slumber
She smiled an inviting smile
And mouthed words i’ve heard hardly ever
“thou canst.”

Awed, as she’s approaching me
From nowhere she came, saying:
“i fly with the wind. take hold of me
Don’t let me slide, for we will unlikely meet again.”
My heart was beating faster then,
Her words did raise my hopes
What if i woke at a diff’rent time
I’d wake as someone else?
What if i woke in a diff’rent place
Could i be someone else?
“thou canst”, she’d reassert,
“provided that you meet conditions,
Just put your faith in me and seize!
And all you seek will soon be yours!”

I felt her lyin’ next to me,
Then gently she rose, my fingers let slip her long hair
Avoiding the gaze of her eyes
Belied with the iffiness i have shown

Shivers so cold ran down my spine
As she kissed me goodbye, i gathered myself, asking her name
Then she told me:
“i subdue all things, i’m the one known under the name of time.”
Numb, as i realised, she went on to reveal
Her sad voice yet resounds in me:
“your supreme moment i could’ve been, if you had only confided in me.”

Late, i regained my poise she’d gone
Her scent’s still in the air
So faint, so vague
As if to ever bring to mind
All that will never be
