The baldoon goose
TanglefootThe spirit of a witch, some say
Come here to cause this mayhem
Til a debt has been repaid
A debt has been repaid
Unbidden fires, unseen souls,
An unknown hand these things controls
What wraith's shadow hangs o'er this land?
What blackened heart, what bitter hand?
My children dread the slightest sound
Unseen souls pursue my wife
Unbidden fires spring to life
Beams and branches crashing down
Though I am upright and fair
Still my family suffers strife
No minister or sage old wife
Can make the reason for this clear
Young Moira Black lives two days hence
It's said she has the Second Sight
I'll find her on the full-moon night
And seek the aid of her sixth sense.
Within your flock is a wild goose
Inside the goose there dwells a witch
A witch, when young, who fancied
She would have your father to herself
But cast aside, she swore revenge
In recompense she wants you land
Your farm it is, or silver
That will pay the debt and lift this curse!
That witch shall never have this land
Where my father built our home!
This debt I thus must call my own
And pay I shall, with my own hand!
Three silver coins are just the thing
Formed within the forge's fire
Into a bullet which now flies
And hits the goose in her left wing!
Gone the goose. and the spells, but ever since that day
The witch's wounded left arm will not heal
The debt has been repaid
With silver it has been repaid.
