Defective
Thalesthe flickering light of your lantern.
Into the light I cling enraptured,
a glimpse of your face is all I will need.
Biting branches rend my face, I fall and you turn away.
Mangled, I drag myself out of harm's way.
I thought I'd find shelter in the darkness, in shadows.
A glance at the pitch black night sky
made me sneer at life's bleakness.
My dreary moments I faced with a crooked grin,
the grievous thoughts I brushed off with a shrug.
No words could sway me from my path,
my aim, my goal, gleamed luminously in my shady mind.
One final, blunt gaze at my reflection.
An archaic smile augments my grit.
Passing through the blighted landscape
I beseech unerring judgement.
My prayers echo back from nothingness,
no god hears my appeals.
Your marble face midst the pure white snow
reflects sun's golden beams.
Your ebony hair and melodious laughter
make my reason waste away.
In you I sought shelter, you scoffed at me
and threw yourself on your lover's arms.
Neither of you will ever feel the same
for into the grave I sent you in your sleep,
but you will always be mine in my dreams.
I faced my demons,
my mind is clear of thoughts of you.
The image of consuming flames,
the rasping screams of your pain
now hidden away within me,
muffled by my laughter.
