Our grave
The bell county silence
Our Grave
For me it's still the river
rocking back and forth
lulling us to sleep
steady as she goes
To you it's just a city
swinging nervous feet
that holds all of our hands
on the old and quiet streets
and we will all be here
where there is a longing
where there is a city
blood, cotton, tears, wool
we can make this life a quilt
to keep you warm along the way
draped in the skin of friends
and when you find your rest
so calm, and true, and dead
you'll have these tired designs
as proof that we once were alive
These Hudson River children
scream just let us be
Hold them Columbia
and silence their grinding teeth
and i will still be here
where there is a longing
steady as she goes
steady as the river rocking back and forth
