Ashes and dust

I could have been a fallow wolf
Or a frog fighting with storks
I could have been a clairvoyant
Or a simple deaf and dumb person

I could have been burned at the stake
Or thrown to beasts as an easy prey
I could have been a nobody
Or the greatest of all prophets

Ashes and dust
Which I consist of
Torment and pain
I am damned

I was a great king for nothing
When my people were beggarly
I was god for nothing
When I tore the bible to pieces

I was unbeliever for nothing
When my belief was unbelievable
I was creator for nothing
When I ruined everything

I could have been a bandit
or a law-abiding servant
I could have been a laughing hangman
or a witch sentenced to death
