Fevermist
All dreams dyingthe flame of my consciousness smothers.
A numbing feeling creeps over my body,
gnawing at my sanity.
I try to escape from the diseased images,
but there's no escaping one's own mind.
Hammering pain rushes through my veins
and strikes me down with its fury.
I gasp for air, but it only
feeds the fire in my lungs.
I scream out into the void.
Clawing at the ground beneath me
I try to hide from this insanity.
Through my tears I see
everything distorted and dying.
Moldy leaves land on my mutilated hands
and this bleak reality
tightens its hold on me,
offering no comfort, only fear.
Inch by inch I wedge my way through the cutting rocks.
The smell of my flesh burning
and the taste of blood
augment the sound of my bones breaking.
I reach a ledge and find
that serene, pellucid lake I've been yearning for.
Below it glimmers, beyond my reach, promising me comfort.
I take a leap and plunge into her deadly embrace.
Screaming, I wake up from this nightmare,
only to realise it was all true.
